Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [भारत]July 11 (ANI): The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has suspended the headmistress of a government school in Karur district. It is alleged that Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s speech was telecasted in a classroom during school hours.
The action was taken after a video went viral on social media, which showed students in uniform watching the Chief Minister’s speech on a classroom projector.
Suspension order issued
Following the criticism, School Education Minister Raj Mohan clarified that live streaming was a unilateral decision by the headmistress. According to an official order issued by the District Education Officer (Elementary), Karur, the headmistress of Panchayat Union Middle School (Girls), Krishnarayapuram, S. Mallika has been suspended with immediate effect under Rule 17(e) of the Tamil Nadu Civil Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules.
The suspension order said disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against the headmistress for allegedly violating the School Education Department’s circular dated July 9, 2026, and dereliction of duty.
After the issue of telecasting of the Chief Minister’s speech in a government school classroom came to light, School Education Minister Rajmohan ordered the suspension of the headmistress. Sources said the action took place following the alleged live telecast of Chief Minister Vijay’s official program in the classroom, which was allegedly in violation of departmental instructions.
