Mumbai: The Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the firing incident outside the Mumbai residence of filmmaker Rohit Shetty. The incident has intensified fears over growing threats and intimidation targeting prominent Bollywood figures.
The firing took place in the early hours of Sunday, February 1, 2026, when two unidentified men on a motorcycle allegedly opened fire outside “Shetty Tower” in Juhu before escaping. No injuries were reported, but the incident has raised serious security concerns, recalling earlier high-profile attacks, including the shooting outside actor Salman Khan’s residence in 2024 and the killing of NCP leader Baba Siddique.
Lawrence Bishnoi gang claims responsibility
Soon after the incident, a threatening message surfaced on social media accounts linked to Shubham Lonkar and Aarzoo Bishnoi, individuals said to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. In the post, the group claimed responsibility for the attack and issued a warning to the filmmaker, alleging that Shetty had ignored repeated messages advising him not to interfere in their activities.
“Ram Ram, Jai Bajrang Bali to all brothers. Today, we, Shubham Lonkar, Aarzoo Bishnoi, Hari Boxer, and Harman Shandu, take responsibility for the firing at film director Rohit Shetty’s home in Mumbai. We messaged him many times not to interfere in our work, but he did not understand. This is just a small trailer. If he doesn’t listen, the next bullets won’t be outside the house—they will be inside his bedroom, into his chest,” the message read.
The message also carried a broader threat to the Hindi film industry, warning of severe consequences for those who failed to comply. The post ended by asserting the supremacy of the Lawrence Bishnoi group.
Mumbai Police and the Crime Branch have launched an extensive investigation into the firing. Forensic teams were deployed at the scene and CCTV footage from the Juhu–Vile Parle area is being examined to trace the attackers. Authorities are also verifying the authenticity of the social media claims and investigating whether the threat messages are directly connected to the firing.
5 arrested from Pune
Police have arrested five individuals from Pune in connection with the case. Those held include Aman Anand Marote (27), Aditya Gnaneshwar Gayki (19), Siddharth Deepak Yenpure (20), Samarth Shivsharan Pomaji (18), and Swapnil Bandu Sakat (23). Further questioning is underway to establish their roles.
Meanwhile, security arrangements for several film industry figures are being reassessed as authorities work to curb the gang’s attempts to spread fear through high-profile attacks and extortion threats.
