Several parts of India have been experiencing heavy rains this week, due to which daily lives have been disrupted in the areas. Ensuring that students remain safe in such risky times, several state governments and city administrations have announced school holidays till the situation gets better.

Gurugram
Since the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Delhi for September 2 (Tuesday), and the NCR region continued to receive heavy rainfall, the has ordered all schools to stay closed today.
“Today, from 3 pm to 7pm, heavy rainfall of over 100 mm has been recorded in Gurugram City. Indian Metrological Department in its forecast has issued Orange Alert: Heavy to very Heavy rainfall for 02-09-2025,” an official notification stated. “In view of the above forecast, all Corporate offices and Private institutions in the district are advised to guide their employees to work from home; and all schools in the district are advised to conduct Online classes on 02-09-2025.”
Punjab
This North India state has been receiving heavy rainfall and has experienced landslides and flood-like situation since last week. Keeping this in mind, the Punjab government has extended the existing .
“In accordance with the directives of Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Singh Mann, keeping in view the flood situation in Punjab, holidays have been declared in all government/aided/recognised and private schools in the state until September 3, 2025,” Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said.
Uttar Pradesh
Considering the worsening weather in several cities and districts of Uttar Pradesh, there are a few cities that have announced school holidays for Tuesday. Schools will closed today in cities such as Kasganj, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Bareilly, Moradabad, Pilibhit and Aligarh.
There’s also a possibility of a similar notice for Lucknow.
Atul Kumar Singh, Senior Scientist at the Meteorological Center in Lucknow, told local media that the active cyclonic circulation over the past two days has triggered a western disturbance, causing the monsoon trough to shift northward. As a result, several regions are likely to witness heavy rainfall accompanied by stormy conditions. However, the intensity of rainfall is expected to decrease from September 3 onwards.
Kerala
Schools across Kerala are currently on a 10-day break for the Onam festival. The holidays will last until September 7, 2025, with regular classes set to resume from September 8, 2025.
Jammu
Schools in the Jammu Division will be , due to persistent adverse weather conditions and safety concerns. The Jammu division has been experiencing heavy rains since last week, due to which all exams for schools, colleges and recruitment have also been postponed.
Uttarakhand
A holiday has been declared in all Anganwadi centers and schools from class 1 to 12th in Chamoli district on Tuesday, 2 September.
Himachal Pradesh
This hilly area has been experiencing similar destruction such as Punjab, and therefore schools have been ordered to stay closed in Kangra, Mandi, Sirmaur, and Kullu. A similar order is expected to come in for Shimla, Kinnaur, Solan, Una, and Chamba, depending on the weather.
