union budget 2026
As the Union Budget 2026 is approaching, economists of the country are giving their opinion about the possible priorities of the government. Experts believe that this time in the budget, special emphasis can be seen on employment generation, agricultural development, MSME, infrastructure and green economy. The common man also expects relief on the tax, health, education and employment fronts.
Special emphasis will be on employment and agriculture
According to Professor Satish Raikindi of Osmania University, the government can give priority to employment generation and agriculture sector keeping in mind sustainable development. According to him, inclusive manufacturing and digital transformation will also be important in the government’s agenda. This will not only accelerate economic development, but will also improve the balance between rural and urban areas.
Infrastructure, MSME and green economy important
Raikindi said that investment on defence, infrastructure projects like railways, MSME, rural development and green economy may increase in the budget. Focus on these areas will create new jobs and strengthen the economy. Also, the common man is hopeful about tax slab relief, affordable housing, better health services and education.
Balance of investment is necessary
Professor M. Ramulu expressed concern over the current trend of investment. He said that at present investment is limited to capital-intensive industries and big cities, due to which pollution and population pressure is increasing. He suggests that investment should reach startups, small industries, agro-based and regional industries, so that there can be balanced development in all the states.
Need to reconsider welfare schemes
Regarding welfare schemes, Ramulu said that identification of the true needy is very important. The benefits of many schemes are reaching people who are already financially capable. He said that welfare should not be limited to just free food grains, but equal attention should be given to education and health.
Demand for GST and tax reform
Regarding GST, Ramulu said that it is a good system, but there is dissatisfaction among the states regarding the distribution of tax. He advised to bring more people into the tax net by reducing the tax rate, so that people voluntarily declare their income and the revenue increases.
Eye on balanced development
Overall, economists believe that if resources are used properly, investment is balanced and welfare schemes are better targeted, then Budget 2026 can take the country’s growth rate to new heights.
