WPL 2026 playoffs scenario explained! What MI, DC and UP Warriorz need to qualify for Eliminator

New Delhi: Three teams remain in contention for the final spot as the race for playoffs intensifies in the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026. Gujarat Giants (GG) beat defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in their final league game on Friday, January 30, to bag their fifth win in the season and qualify for the playoffs.

Gujarat Giants became the second team to book their spot in the WPL 2026 playoffs after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who have already qualified and secured their spot in the final. The team finishing first in the league stage will directly qualify for the WPL 2026 final, while the teams placed second and third will meet in the Eliminator.

The winner of the Eliminator will play the final. With 12 points from eight matches, RCB are set to finish at the top and will play the final against the winner of the Eliminator. GG have booked their spot in the Eliminator with 10 points from eight games. Meanwhile, the other three teams are in contention for the remaining one slot.

However, only one of the Mumbai Indians, UP Warriorz or Delhi Capitals will qualify for the playoffs. MI do not have their fate in their hands as they have already played their eight league stage matches. The team finishing third will face Gujarat Giants in the Eliminator.

WPL 2026 points table

Team Matches Played Points NRR
RCB (Q) 8 12 +1.247
GG (Q) 8 10 -0.168
MI 8 6 +0.059
DC 7 6 -0.164
UPW 7 4 -1.164

What does each team need to qualify for WPL 2026 playoffs?

Delhi Capitals – The equation is simple for Jemimah Rodrigues-led Delhi Capitals. The three-time finalists have six points after seven matches and need to win their last game to qualify for the WPL 2026 playoffs. If DC beat UP Warriorz in their last game on Sunday, they will qualify irrespective of the margin.

Mumbai Indians – Mumbai Indians are in a tricky spot as they don’t have their fate in their own hands. After losing against the Giants in their last game, the Mumbai Indians need a favour from UP Warriorz. If UP Warriorz beat DC in their final league game, MI will have strong chances of finishing third.

UP Warriorz – UP Warriorz are only mathematically alive in the tournament after managing only four points from 7 matches. If Warriorz beat DC in their last game, it will come down to the net run rate, and they will need to win by nearly impossible margins to qualify.

UP Warriorz will need to win by 156 runs if they bat first or chase down their target in less than two overs if they bat second to stand a chance. Unless they win by these margins, MI will qualify if UP Warriorz beat DC in their last game on Sunday.
