Menstrual Hygiene Tips: Even today, the topic of menstrual hygiene, i.e. cleanliness and proper care during menstruation, has not become a part of open discussion in many homes. Limited information about it in school books, hesitant conversations at home, and incomplete or inaccurate information among friends all lead girls to rely on hearsay instead of proper care. The result is that they unknowingly commit such mistakes, which can later lead to infection, allergy, skin problem, urinary tract infection (UTI) or problems related to reproductive health.
The problem is that many girls avoid asking questions due to shyness or hesitation. Some girls keep wearing the same pad for a long time, some use perfumed or chemical products. In such a situation, it is important for you to know what are the mistakes which we should not make even by mistake while having periods.

Not changing pads or tampons on time
Many girls keep pads on for a long time due to reduced blood flow, which is the most common and dangerous mistake. Wet and warm environments allow bacteria to grow rapidly, which can cause rashes, foul odor, skin infections and even serious vaginal infections. Experts also recommend that pads should be changed every 46 hours and tampons should be changed every 48 hours, even if the flow is low.
Excessive or improper cleaning of intimate areas
Some girls wash repeatedly with soap, shower gel or fragrance products. Thinking that this would result in greater cleanliness. But the vagina cleans itself naturally. Using too many chemical or aromatic products can upset the pH balance, which increases the risk of irritation, itching and yeast infection. External cleaning with lukewarm water is sufficient.
wearing dirty or synthetic undergarments
There is more moisture during periods, so wearing tight or synthetic clothes does not allow the skin to breathe. This causes sweat, moisture and bacteria to accumulate, which can cause rashes and fungal infections. It is very important to wear such cotton undergarments and change them at least once a day.
ignoring pain or unusual symptoms
Many girls assume that excessive pain, smelly discharge, itching or burning sensation during periods is normal. Whereas this does not happen. Sometimes some symptoms may be a sign of infection, hormonal disturbance or some disease. If such problem occurs again and again, it is important to consult a doctor, because if timely treatment is not received, the problem may increase.
Changing menstrual products with dirty hands
Due to being in a hurry or being outside, many times girls change pads or cups without washing their hands. Due to this, germs can directly reach the intimate area and the risk of infection increases. Washing hands with soap before and after changing products every time is a small but very important habit.
