India’s role in global energy is stronger than before… Hardeep Singh Puri said at the conclusion of IEW

Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri addressed the closing ceremony of India Energy Week (IEW) 2026. He said India has demonstrated strong preparedness to deal with continued geopolitical instability in global energy markets. India will continue to play a central role in international energy. This program was organized in Goa from 27 January to 30 January 2026.

The Union Minister said that India’s energy strategy Is based on changes. We have faced continuous crises. Through diversification of supply sources and rapid move towards clean fuels, we have converted every challenge into an opportunity.

Third largest energy consumer

Hardeep Puri said that the country is today the third largest energy consumer, fourth largest refiner and one of the top exporters of petroleum products. He also said that India will continue to ensure availability, affordability and stability of energy even amidst global uncertainty.

The Union Minister also stressed on the government’s efforts on biogas (CBG), green hydrogen and indigenous clean energy technologies along with continued investment in conventional fuels. He said, the need for conventional energy will remain, but with the progress we are making, from ethanol blending to CBG, hydrogen and biofuels, we are confident that the role of green fuels will grow even further.

Speed ​​up India’s development journey

Dr. Neeraj Mittal, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, presented the government’s plan to accelerate India’s development journey. The Secretary said- With the estimated economic growth of more than 7 percent, there will be a sharp increase in the demand for energy. Our focus is on two main pillars: strengthening exploration and production domestically, and establishing India as a reliable supplier of refined products to the world.
