Many people complain that lavender was planted but neither flowers nor fragrance came. Actually, lavender needs different treatment from normal plants – less water, plenty of sunlight and right soil. If you follow the tips mentioned below, your lavender will not only remain green but will also provide abundant flowers and fragrance for a long time.
1. It is most important to choose the right sunlight and place.
Lavender needs at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily. Keeping the plant in low light or a closed place can weaken and dry up. Keep it near the balcony, terrace or window in a place where it gets good morning sunlight. Very cold and humid places are harmful for lavender.
2. Avoid overwatering, less water is its life
Lavender is a dry climate plant, so excess water rots its roots. Water only when the soil is completely dry. Watering 1-2 times a week in summer and once in 10-12 days in winter is sufficient. Remember-Lavender needs less water, but at the right time.
3. If soil and drainage are not correct then the plant will dry up.
Lavender likes sandy and well-drained soil. Heavy or sticky soil causes water to stagnate, causing root damage.

- 40% garden soil
- 40% sand
- 20% cocopeat or compost
- The pot must have large drainage holes at the bottom.
4. Proper cutting and light fertilizer are necessary for flowers.
Keep cutting dry or withered flowers and twigs from time to time. Due to this, new branches emerge and more flowers appear. Give banana peel water or very light compost once a month. By giving more fertilizer, leaves grow but flowers appear less – hence balance is necessary.
