Ex-Army Man Who Killed Wife Evaded Arrest for 20 Years with No Phone, Cash Transactions

Anil Kumar Tiwari, previously an Indian Army soldier who had been on the run for 20 years since killing his spouse, was finally caught by the Crime Branch on Saturday.

Shortly after his 1989 brutal slaying of his wife, Tiwari had fled during a 2005 parole.

The crime that is behind the escape

Tiwari was incarcerated for the brutal murder of his wife in 1989, for which he was condemned to life in prison. After being given a two-week release by the Delhi High Court on November 21, 2005, however, Tiwari never went back to jail, vanishing for twenty years.

How the police followed him down

Spotting Tiwari in and his close-by village, the Crime Branch had stepped up their investigation recently. Surveillance conducted with mechanical and manual techniques helped them to raid Churhat community in the Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh. Tiwari was caught on April 12, 2025, following a thorough inquiry.

Twenty years on the run from being arrested

Tiwari showed under interrogation the lengths he had gone to escape detection. “Knowing the police were looking for him, he stopped using cell phones and constantly changed his hiding places and employment venues.” Aditya Gautam, a senior Crime Branch officer, remarked.

A Fresh Life and Family

Even as he avoided arrest, Tiwari was able to start a fresh life, re-marry and raise four kids. Even for years, he had been under the radar, avoiding any major contacts that could reveal his identity, despite his criminal history.

Dismissal from corps once court proceedings have run的

Starting in 1987 as a driver, Tiwari had been in the Ordnance Corps of the Indian Army. Still, his murder conviction got him fired from the military.

Delhi Police has let the right officials know about his apprehension and more inquiries are in progress.
