When I was writing a merchant, all the people used to tell me what you are thinking, to bring Dilip Kumar and Raj Kumar together, this picture will never work. The whole industry used to say that this picture cannot be made. One, my connection with Dilip Saheb was good and I was confident that he is a very good man. At the same time, I did not know about Raj Kumar Saheb, I wrote a script with honesty in which the role of both should be equal.

Subhash Ghai further said, ‘I went to Dilip Saheb, and heard the script and then said that the role of another friend is also equal to you. On this, Dilip Saheb said that who is the second actor, I said that if I am taking Raj Kumar, he did not say anything. Then I went to Raj Kumar and said the same thing, then he also asked who is the second actor, I said Dilip Kumar said that yes the second actor can be Dilip. After this the film started and we had to finish it in 12 months. You will not agree, I had completed this film in 9 months and I never came to probal from both actors.
