At which place in Uttarakhand the wedding was organized in the cremation ground? Approximately how many guests attended this unique wedding? Why did local people and social organizations oppose this marriage? What action has the administration taken against the resort in this matter?
A wedding in Uttarakhand has become a topic of discussion because a couple chose the crematorium to get married. This unique wedding took place on April 25 in Marchula, Uttarakhand, which is near Jim Corbett National Park. The wedding was organized at the cremation ground built at the confluence of Ramganga and Badangarh rivers. The cremation ground where cremations are traditionally performed was decorated for the wedding, with music played and rituals performed. About 50 guests attended this wedding.
Video viral on social media, anger among local people
The matter came to light when a video was shared on Instagram. It showed the decoration of the cremation ground and the couple wearing garlands. This clip went viral within no time and sparked online debate.
Local people and social organizations expressed strong objection to this, calling it insulting and inappropriate. Social activist Narayan Singh Rawat stressed that cremation grounds have deep religious and emotional significance and should not be used for celebrations. Tehsildar Abid Ali confirmed that the organizers had not obtained the necessary administrative permission for the event. He also mentioned safety concerns and said the area was dangerous for crocodiles.
The authorities have issued a notice to the resort associated with this program and started investigation. Resort manager Rakesh Sharma said that the organizers were informed about the reality of the venue, but they did not care about it and were adamant on holding the wedding. Officials have warned that due to the increasing popularity of Uttarakhand as a destination wedding hub and the lack of rules, such disputes may arise in the future if clear guidelines are not implemented.
