The thrill of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) was at the peak on the pitch of Rawalpindi. Quetta Gladiators were facing Lahore Kalandars. But after this high-voltage match, a new story was born outside the field. This time the story was of Quetta’s off-spinner Usman Tariq who has been engulfed on the charge of suspected bowling.

In the match played on Sunday, when Quetta suffered a 79-run defeat at the hands of Lahore, on-field umpire Ehsan Raza and Chris Brown called Usman Tariq’s bowling action as suspicious. However, Tariq completed his four overs and also blow a wicket for 31 runs.

This is not the first time Tariq’s action has come under discussion. Last time, his action was also questioned in a match against Karachi Kings in 2023. Then the Quetta franchise voluntarily removed him from the tournament so that he could get the bowling action checked. Later in August, Lahore-based ICC-recognized lab declared his action valid, and he took part in domestic cricket without any restriction. This time in PSL, Quetta Gladiators started their campaign, in which Tariq performed 2-26 against Peshawar Zalmi. But now the question has arisen that will they be able to bowl further?

What did PCB say on Tariq?

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued a statement saying, ‘According to the rules, Usman Tariq can continue bowling in PSL’s upcoming matches. However, if they are re-reported, bowling will be banned and they have to take clearance from the ICC-recognized lab to play again. Now it will be interesting to see if this young spinner will be able to prove himself once again or the sword of the ban will hang on his career again. Their journey on the field will continue or they will have to meet again on the test of investigation, it will be clear in the coming matches.
