When is Sant Ravidas Jayanti 2026?
It is believed that Saint Ravidas was born in Samvat 1337 on the full moon day of Magh month. A couplet related to this is also popular –

Shri Guru Ravidas ji worked for the welfare of the suffering people.
This time the full moon date of Magh month is on 1st February, Sunday. Therefore, the birth anniversary of Saint Ravidas will be celebrated on this day.

Who were in the family of Saint Ravidas?
Saint Ravidas’s father’s name was Santokh Das and mother’s name was Kalasa Devi. His wife’s name was Lona Devi. Saint Ravidas used to make shoes, hence at that time he was looked upon as very inferior. Saint Ravidas made tireless efforts to remove this evil of society. Later, when people understood the thoughts of Saint Ravidas, he was given the title of saint. Some people also call him Saint Shiromani.
Loved to serve saints and sages
Saint Ravidas ji was very charitable and kind. His nature was to help saints and the needy. Due to this nature of his, he would often make shoes and gift them to people without taking any money. He was not worried about profit and loss at all. He always used to say – If the mind is healed then the Ganga will be cut. That is, if your mind is pure then you can get the results of bathing in Ganga even by bathing with ordinary water.
Golden Temple of Saint Ravidas is in Kashi
There is a grand temple of Saint Ravidas in Kashi, which is also called the second Golden Temple of the country. In this temple there are different things like palanquin, lamp etc. worth more than 200 kg of gold. About 40 verses written by Sant Ravidas are also found in Guru Granth Sahib, which was edited by Guru Arjundev Sahib in the 16th century. This shows his greatness and foresight.
