The matter of love insurance related to China is in discussion.
Is there any insurance on love? Perhaps most people’s answer would be – no, but a similar case has come to light in China. Chinese woman took love insurance. For this he paid 28 dollars (2,500 rupees) and received 1400 dollars (1.25 lakh rupees) from the insurance company. The woman had bought this insurance to gift it to her boyfriend. With whom she got married and then both of them got 1400 dollars.
Now the question arises that what is love insurance, how did it start in China, why did it have to be stopped and what is the story of that woman.
What is love insurance?
If understood in simple language, love insurance means that if the boy and the girl get married within a fixed period of time after falling in love, then they get the claimed amount. Same thing happened in China also.
According to the report of South China Morning Post (SCMP), a woman from Xi’an city of Shaanxi province of China bought a policy related to love insurance for US $ 28 (about Rs 2,500) in 2016. This woman surnamed Wu had given this policy as a gift to her school boyfriend. Her boyfriend, surnamed Wang, believed that Wu had been cheated. Later, when the policy documents were shown, the boy believed it. Their affair started in 2015 and they bought the policy in 2016.
The entire story of Love Insurance went viral through social media.
What was the problem with the policy?
The woman had taken a policy from China Life Property and Casualty Insurance Company Limited. The condition of the policy was that if the couple got married during the time given by them for marriage, then they would get 10 thousand roses or 10 thousand yuan i.e. 1400 dollars. It was necessary for the woman to marry to fulfill that condition.
Wu and Wang officially registered their marriage in October 2025. Thus, the terms of the policy were fulfilled. For payment, he opted for cash, not 10,000 roses, because of the difficulty in preserving 10,000 roses.
“The customer service department said they would send us an email within one to two days so we could submit the necessary documents,” Wang said. After this the couple got the money.
The couple opted for cash instead of Rs 10,000 roses.
Why did the company stop the policy?
It has been told in Chinese media reports that the company had stopped the ‘Love Insurance’ policy in the year 2017. The reason for this was the criticism on social media. But, that policy is still valid for those who had taken it. Wu and Wang’s story went viral through Chinese social media and reached the world.
One user on social media joked, “My husband and I met in college, dated for five years, and have been married for nine. Why didn’t we know about this type of insurance at the time?” Another user said, “Looks like insurance experts believed that relationships lasting more than three years rarely result in marriage.”
