Tuticorin (Tamil Nadu) [भारत]July 10 (ANI): Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi on Friday hit back at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s comments on the Karur stampede. He said everyone should act responsibly and refrain from commenting as the matter is under investigation. Kanimozhi said that the ongoing investigation should be allowed to proceed on its own and it is not appropriate to make any comment on it.

Speaking to reporters on Vijay’s statement on the Karur stampede, she said, “Everyone should understand and act with a sense of responsibility. The matter is currently under investigation and it is appropriate to refrain from commenting on it. People know who stood by them in difficult times and who helped them. Therefore, I do not want to comment any further on this issue.”

CM Vijay’s allegations on Karur stampede

The statement comes after Vijay alleged that the police failed to manage the crowd properly and accused the previous DMK government of trying to put the blame on him for the tragedy that claimed 41 lives. He said that the Karur stampede of 2025 is the deepest wound of his political journey. Vijay was in Karur today to attend several government and party programmes, including distributing appointment letters of government jobs on compassionate grounds to the families of the victims of the 2025 Karur stampede.

Kanimozhi cornered the government on ‘inspection tours’

Further, criticizing the Tamil Nadu government over inspection visits by ministers and MLAs, he alleged that such visits were causing inconvenience to the public and emotional stress to the students. He said that the actions of the Chief Minister have raised questions on the direction in which the government is going.

Kanimozhi said, “In this government, ministers and assembly members are repeatedly visiting places where they should not be in the name of inspection, which is causing inconvenience to the people there. They have also visited schools, which is affecting the mental well-being of the students and causing them emotional stress. When the Chief Minister also indulges in such activities, it raises a question in everyone’s mind as to what direction this government is heading.” (ANI)
