These days India Energy Week is going on in Goa. Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said important things regarding future energy here. He said that in the coming twenty years, India’s share in global energy demand will be about 35 percent. He clarified that the growth of India’s energy sector is stable and balanced.

Hardeep Singh Puri Said that India is now not only an importer of energy but has also become an exporter in many sectors. The country’s refining and processing capacity is continuously increasing and India is today fully integrated with the global energy market.

India’s energy security strong

The Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister said that currently India is importing crude oil from 41 countries, which has strengthened supply diversification and energy security. He stressed that India’s oil economy is playing an important role in the global energy balance.

SAF is the flight of the future

Talking on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), the Union Minister said that India has already operated a SAF based flight on the Pune Delhi route. He said that more concrete progress will be seen in this area from 2027. The Union Minister expressed confidence that SAF will emerge as a practical and effective solution in the coming times.

According to Hardeep Singh Puri, availability of biomass required for SAF is not a problem in India, although Used Cooking Oil is not a practical option for India. He said that there is vast potential for SAF in countries like India and Brazil. Continuous dialogue and cooperation is going on in this direction.

Green Hydrogen: India in mission mode

Regarding Green Hydrogen, the Minister said that its policy has already been implemented and the Prime Minister has given clear instructions to take it forward in mission mode. This mission has been divided among six different ministries/departments so that implementation is faster.

Hardeep Singh Puri said that the main goal of the government is to reduce the price of green hydrogen, because India has the potential for large-scale scaling. According to him, as production increases, costs will decrease and India will be in a position to become a global leader in this sector. India does not see energy transition as an obligation but as an opportunity, and this is our biggest strength.
