Economic Survey 2026: Before the arrival of the general budget, today is a very important day for the Indian economy and the common citizen. Everyone waiting for the budget has their eyes fixed on Parliament today. Today i.e. Thursday, January 29, the government is going to present ‘Economic Survey 2026’. This document is actually a ‘report card’ of the economic health of the country, which tells what we have lost and what we have gained in the last one year. Besides, this report also indicates which way the winds of inflation, employment and trade will blow in the coming days.
‘Accounts’ of the economy will be opened in Parliament today 11
The budget session of Parliament has started and today’s proceedings are going to be very important. Chief Economic Advisor V. Anantha Nageswaran will table the Economic Survey 2026 in Parliament at 11 am today. It will be presented in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha houses. This document to be presented today is special because it will help in deciding the direction and condition of the general budget to be presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on 1 February.
This is called the mirror of the economy
Economic Survey is the complete details of the country’s earnings and expenditure. This report tells how much success was achieved in the targets set by the government last year. It contains important information like pace of growth, inflation rate and foreign exchange reserves. If seen from the common man’s point of view, the latest situation of agriculture, industry and jobs is discussed in detail in it. This document also tells the government which areas are in dire need of improvement to keep the economy on track. Generally it has two parts, one gives the complete picture of the economy and the other focuses on specific issues.
The first economic survey was presented since 1950.
If we look at history, the first Economic Survey was presented along with the budget in the year 1950-51. But, after 1964 it was separated from the budget. The idea behind this was that even before the budget was presented, the MPs and the public could know the true economic situation of the country, so that the budget could be understood in a better way. Now in the digital era it has become very easy to read and understand. As soon as the survey is presented in Parliament, its complete copy will be uploaded in PDF format on the Government of India website indiabudget.gov.in. You can download it for free from there. Apart from this, every moment information can be seen live on the digital platforms of Sansad TV and Doordarshan.
