‘Supersonic’ pace of industrial production in December, IIP at 2 year high

The country’s industrial production has reached a two-year high.

A lot of good news has come out regarding the country’s economy. The picture that has emerged regarding industrial production, the main growth driver of the country’s economy, is looking much better. If we look at the figures, the industrial production in December has reached a two-year high, reaching close to 8 percent. Whereas in the same month last year this figure was less than 4 percent. This means that a tremendous increase is being seen in industrial production after one year. Let us also tell you what kind of figures have come out from the government.

IIP at two year high

India’s industrial production growth rate reached a more than two-year high of 7.8 percent in December 2025 on the back of strong performance in mining, manufacturing and power sectors. Industrial production, measured in terms of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), had grown by 3.7 percent in December 2024. The official statement said industrial momentum further strengthened in December 2025 as the index of industrial production rose by 7.8 percent to its highest level in more than two years.

It had recorded a growth of 7.2 percent (revised) in November 2025. The National Statistical Office (NSO) has revised the industrial production growth estimate for November 2025 to 7.2 percent from the provisional estimate of 6.7 percent released last month.

Manufacturing and mining performance

According to NSO data, the production of the manufacturing sector increased by 8.1 percent in December 2025 which was 3.7 percent in December 2024. Mining production recorded a growth of 6.8 percent which was 2.7 percent in December 2024. Electricity production increased by 6.3 percent in December 2025 whereas it was 6.2 percent in the same month of 2024. During the April-December period of the current financial year 2025-26, the growth rate of the country’s industrial production declined from 4.1 percent to 3.9 percent on an annual basis.
