There is news of relief for lakhs of central employees doing government jobs. The process of implementation of the long awaited 8th Pay Commission recommendations is now gaining momentum.

With this change, the basic salary of the employees will increase and they will also get bumper arrears of the previous months.

Effective from 1 January 2026

According to experts, the tenure of the 7th Pay Commission ended on 31 December 2025. Since then, the impact of the 8th Pay Commission is being considered. Although the official announcement of the new salary will be made later, payment will be made to the employees’ accounts as per the increased salary and arrears from January 1, 2026.

Experts estimate that the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission may be fully implemented by 2027. Employees are likely to receive arrears of approximately 12 to 24 months.

Fitment factor will decide the amount of salary increase

Fitment factor plays the most important role in the salary increase of central employees. It decides the new salary by increasing the old basic salary.
