Jaya Ekadashi 2026 Date and Vrat Niyam:Jaya Ekadashi fast of Shukla Paksha of Magh month is observed to obtain the special blessings of Lord Vishnu. In the year 2026, Jaya Ekadashi will be celebrated with devotion and rituals on Thursday, January 29. According to the Panchang, Ekadashi Tithi will start from 04:35 PM on 28th January and will continue till 01:56 PM on 29th January. It is mentioned in the scriptures that the worship, fasting and meditation done on this day destroys sins, but if some mistake is made in the worship, then the full results of the fast are not achieved. Therefore, it is considered very important to take special precautions on Jaya Ekadashi.
Do not use food in worship on Jaya Ekadashi.
According to the scriptures, consumption of food on Jaya Ekadashi is considered the biggest mistake. Offering food made from rice, wheat or pulses during puja can destroy the virtue of the fast. Ekadashi date is considered very dear to Lord Vishnu and on this day only fruit food or sattvik bhog is acceptable. It is believed that food contains Tamogun, which can destroy the sattvik energy of Ekadashi. Therefore, only fruits, makhana or milk products should be offered in puja, only then one can receive the blessings of Lord Vishnu.
Do not worship without Tulsi group in puja.
Vishnu worship is considered incomplete without Tulsi group on Jaya Ekadashi. It is said in the scriptures that Lord Vishnu considers Tulsi very dear and worship done without Tulsi does not give full results. Many times devotees unknowingly offer flowers but do not take care of Tulsi, which is considered a big religious mistake. Offering Tulsi Dal on the day of Jaya Ekadashi maintains the purity of the worship and Lord Vishnu gets pleased quickly. It is believed that worship with Tulsi destroys sins and fulfills wishes.
Stay away from anger, untruth and negative thoughts
Jaya Ekadashi is not only considered a festival of external worship but also a day of internal purification. According to the scriptures, getting angry, lying, criticizing or hurting someone on this day is considered a serious fault. Such negative tendencies reduce the effect of puja. It is believed that purity of mind, speech and actions is necessary on Jaya Ekadashi. If a person indulges in anger or untruth throughout the day despite fasting, then he does not receive the blessings of Lord Vishnu. Therefore, special attention should be paid to restraint, silence and positive thinking.
Do not hurry or delay in breaking the fast.
It is mentioned in the scriptures that Ekadashi fast should be broken on Dwadashi date only. Breaking the fast before time or too late on Jaya Ekadashi is also considered a religious mistake. It is considered best to do Parana after morning bath and Vishnu puja. Many times people eat food on the Ekadashi date itself or do Parana after Dwadashi is over, due to which the fast is considered incomplete. It is believed that only by observing Parana at the right time, the full results of the fast are achieved and the blessings of Lord Vishnu remain permanent in life.
