Mahabharata Jarasandha Story: The stories of the Mahabharata period are not just stories of war and bravery, but they also contain deep secrets related to life, death and religion. One such mysterious story is that of Magadh king Jarasandha, who was not easy to defeat even for a great warrior like Bhima himself. Even when Bhima broke Jarasandha’s body into two pieces, he remained alive. Bhima was surprised to see this. After all, how did Jarasandha’s death become possible? Let us know.

Who was Jarasandha?

Jarasandha was a powerful king of Magadha. He was considered very strong, cruel and invincible in war. He had captured many kings in his life and was planning to sacrifice them. For this reason, Shri Krishna, Arjun and Bhima reached Magadha to stop him. According to mythology, Jarasandha was born in two different parts. His mother had given birth to two dead lumps of flesh, seeing which King Brihadratha got scared and threw them in the forest. There a demon named ‘Jara’ picked up those two pieces and as soon as they joined them together, they joined and a living child was born. For this reason his name was Jarasandha.

Fierce battle between Bhima and Jarasandha

The biggest obstacle in the path of Rajasuya Yagya was Jarasandha. Lord Shri Krishna, Bhima and Arjun reached Magadha disguised as Brahmins and challenged Jarasandha to war. There was a continuous war between Bhima and Jarasandha for 27 days. Bhima was using all his strength, but it seemed impossible to defeat Jarasandha.

When Bhima was surprised

During the war, Bhima tore Jarasandha into two pieces several times. But as soon as Bhima threw it, both the parts of Jarasandha would stick together again and he would come alive again and stand up. Bhima was shocked and disturbed to see why this warrior was not dying.

That small gesture of Shri Krishna

When Bhima started getting tired, he looked towards Shri Krishna. Shri Krishna knew that if Jarasandha’s body parts were thrown straight, they would join. He took a straw in his hand, cut it in the middle and threw the two parts in opposite directions. Bhima understood the hint. Next time he cut Jarasandha from the middle and threw the right part in the left direction and the left part in the right direction. Due to being thrown in the opposite direction, the body parts of Jarasandha could not join together and thus the cruel Jarasandha came to an end.
