Rainy Season Car Fuel Tank Tips: How much oil should be kept in the car tank in the rain? Know the warning from the mechanic, which can save your car-bike from major damage.
Monsoon Car Care Fuel Tank Warning: As pleasant as the drizzle of monsoon seems, it can also bring great trouble to your vehicle. Often people check wipers, brakes and tires before taking out their car in the rain, but forget about the fuel tank of the car. If you are also one of those people who run their car by keeping only 2-4 liters of oil in the tank, then improve this habit of yours. A big warning from mechanics may blow your mind. Let us know how much oil should be in the car tank during the rainy season and why…
What is the mechanic’s big warning?
Many people have a habit of not going to the petrol pump until the fuel indicator shows ‘Low’ or the reserve is reached. This may be okay in summer or cold, but in rain this habit can hit your pocket hard.
Why does this happen
There is very high moisture in the air during the rainy season. When your vehicle’s fuel tank is half or more empty, air fills that empty space. When the weather is cold at night, the moisture present in the air inside the tank turns into water droplets. This is called condensation in science. This water slowly starts mixing with petrol or diesel.
What harm will happen if water is mixed with petrol and diesel?
- If water gets into the oil due to the empty part of the tank, then these 3 major problems can occur in your car. Water is heavier than petrol or diesel, so it settles to the bottom of the tank. When you start the car, the fuel pump draws water instead of oil, which can cause the engine to misfire and the car to stop in the middle of the road.
- Rust can occur due to water in the inner part of the iron tank. Small particles of rust choke (block) the fuel filter.
- The work of keeping the fuel pump of today’s vehicles cool and lubricated is done by petrol or diesel itself. If the tank remains empty or water is mixed, the fuel pump will get damaged very quickly, which can cost thousands to replace.
How much oil should be kept in the car tank during rains?
- According to mechanics, always keep your car’s tank ‘more than half’ full during the rainy season. It would be best that you always keep the tank three-fourth i.e. about 75% full. It has 3 big benefits.
- When there is more oil in the tank, there will be less free space left. If the empty space is less, the moist air will not be able to stay inside and the risk of water formation will be eliminated.
- Heavy traffic jams may occur at any time during rains or you may have to change your route due to water logging i.e. filling of water on the road. In such a situation, if the tank is full, you will be saved from getting stuck in the middle of the road.
- Due to excess oil, the fuel pump remains completely submerged, due to which it does not heat up and runs well for years.
Car Care Tips for Monsoon
- During rains, water also gets into the underground tanks of some small petrol pumps. Therefore, always fill fuel from a renowned and big petrol pump only.
- The lid of the tank of your car should be closed properly and its rubber seal should not be torn, otherwise the water from outside will directly go inside.
