“From making my debut back in 2009 until now, I feel like I have squeezed every drop out of myself and it is the right time to finish such an enjoyable part of my life. I have been fortunate enough to represent my country, along with many franchise teams around the world, and in Australia. I have never taken the opportunity lightly and I hope people watching knew that I had dreamt about being a cricketer since I was a kid in Darwin,” he said in a statement.
Richardson made his first-class debut in 2011 and played his last red-ball game in 2020. He only played 34 first-class matches, in which he scalped 102 wickets. The 34-year-old never played Test cricket.
Richardson was part of Australia’s 2021 T20 World Cup-winning team. He retained his spot for the next edition of the T20 WC, which was played in Australia. He didn’t get to play a game in any of the two T20 WCs. While Richardson didn’t get regular chances for Australia, he played in many overseas leagues, including the IPL.
Richarson played for Pune Warriors, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the T20 league. Here, we have a look at his performance for RCB and the other two franchises –
Richardson played 5 matches for RCB in IPL. He made his RCB debut in 2016 and played 4 matches in the season. He scalped 7 wickets. RCB lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2016 final.
Richardson played 7 matches for RR in IPL 2014. He scalped nine wickets in that season. He had made his IPL debut for Pune Warriors back in IPL 2013. He only played three matches for them, in which he scalped two wickets. Richardson finished his IPL career with 19 wickets in 15 matches.
Richardson played his last professional match for Sydney Sixers against Melbourne Stars in the 2025/26 Big Bash League season. Sixers suffered a six-wicket defeat against Perth Scorchers in the summit clash.
