‘The Bengal Files’ is a 1946 Calcutta riots and a movie based on the partition of India. This movie performs the role of Direct Action Day, Gopal Mukherjee and communal politics.
The Bengal Files: Vivek Agnihotri is bringing a bang film on another controversial issue. This time the issue of massacre in West Bengal has been raised. It also includes the issue of decision for the partition of India. Releasing on 5 September, this film has once again highlighted the situation of 1947 and the failure of the leadership of the country. The controversy over this film has started before its release.
‘The Bengal Files’ is directed by Vivek Agnihotri, in a recent interview, she said that it brings out the truth of the Great Calcutta Killings and Direct Action Day of the biggest riots in Indian history – 1946. This movie shows the Hindu-Muslim struggle in the past of Bengal, failure of political powers and appeasement during the freedom struggle. In this, Gopal Chandra Mukherjee’s lead character is prominent, under whose leadership Hindus made India ethnic Bahini for their safety, and played their role in protecting thousands of Hindus during the riots.
During the Direct Action Day, the Muslim League distributed street pamphlets to spread communal violence and target the Hindu community. In response to this, Gopal Patha and his organization prepared Hindus in response to the Muslims. It is shown in the film how the general public was targeted in the name of power, politics and religion at that time. How people from different communities became enemies of each other’s life.
In the story of Bengal files, issues such as Mahatma Gandhi’s non-violence, Jinnah’s politics, fight between Congress-Muslim League, and British rule along with the party’s internal politics have also been raised. There are many scenes in it, where some people of Hindu-Muslim were also seen standing together for each other. An example of humanity is also shown in it. After watching the film, the debate on the seriousness of history and political truths in the audience has intensified.
In an interview with Chitra Tripathi, the director of the film told that he wants to show slaughter and reality in Bengal. They believe that we should move forward with a lesson from history. In the interview, Agnihotri has made it clear that the purpose of the film is not to spread sensation, but to bring out the truth.
The Bengal files have played the lead roles by Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Govind Namdev, Pallavi Joshi, Simrat Kaur Randhawa, Divendu Bhattacharya.
