Delhi government has declared July as POCSO Awareness Month. Awareness campaign on Good Touch-Bad Touch, Child Safety and POCSO Act will be conducted in all government and private schools.
The Delhi government has decided to launch a special awareness campaign in all the schools of the capital to further strengthen the safety of children. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced that the entire month of July will be celebrated as ‘POCSO Awareness Month’. During this period, special programs will be organized for children, teachers and school staff in both government and private schools.
The government says that this campaign will not be limited to just providing information, but its objective is to create a safe environment for children in schools and make the child protection system more effective.
Under POCSO campaign, children will be taught Good Touch and Bad Touch.
During this campaign, children in all schools will be given information about Good Touch (good touch) and Bad Touch (wrong touch) according to their age. Children will be told how to recognize if someone behaves inappropriately with them, what to do in such a situation and from whom to seek help without fear. The government believes that children will be able to protect themselves better if they get the right information from an early age.
Mandatory Child Safety Protocols will be implemented in all schools of Delhi
Delhi government has decided to make Child Safety Protocols mandatory in all schools. Under this, schools will have to adopt clear guidelines related to the safety of children. Schools will have to develop such a system where any student can lodge their complaint without any fear. Besides, instructions will also be given to ensure timely action on complaints.
Information about POCSO Act will also be given.
During the campaign, students, teachers and school staff will also be given detailed information about the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, 2012. The objective of this law is to protect children from sexual crimes and ensure prompt legal action in such cases. Experts will also give information about children’s rights, safety measures and complaint procedure.
Teachers and school staff will also get special training
The government does not want to be limited to students only. Under the campaign, teachers, principals and other school staff will also be trained so that they can identify any suspicious situation in time. They will also be told what steps should be taken immediately as per the law if there is suspicion of abuse of a child.
Internal reporting system will be strengthened in schools
Delhi government has instructed all schools to strengthen their internal reporting mechanism. Schools will have to develop such a system in which children’s complaints are kept confidential, immediate action is taken on them and mental and emotional support is also provided to the children.
Big message from the government regarding the safety of children
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the safety of children is the top priority of the government. He says that this campaign is not just a government program but an important initiative towards the safe future of children. The government’s goal is that every child understands his rights, can identify any type of exploitation and can express his views without fear when necessary.
Experts believe that such awareness campaigns can play an important role in increasing self-confidence among children, preventing incidents of child sexual abuse and making schools safer.
