8th class student allegedly commits suicide in Bengaluru. Suicide note contains Rs 20 fine, threat of TC and allegations of harassing teachers, police investigation ongoing.
Bengaluru School Girl Suicide: Anekal area of Bengaluru was suddenly shaken by a scream on Wednesday night, which has put the entire education system in the dock. An innocent girl student studying in 8th class of Marsuru Government High School ended her life at around 12:30 in the night. The contents of the suicide note found by the police near the dead body have shocked everyone. It was written in the note that just because the ‘homework’ was not completed, the teacher not only tortured him mentally, but also imposed a fine of ₹ 20 on him. Not only this, she was given such a terrible threat of expelling her from the school (not giving her the transfer certificate i.e. TC) that she started sinking into the quagmire of fear from where there was no way to return.
“She hid her pain even from her sick mother…” The unheard cry of a helpless family.
While this innocent child was being subjected to mental torture in school, his mother was fighting a battle with her illness on the hospital bed. “The teachers harassed her a lot. I was ill and hospitalised, so she never told me what she was going through at school. Maybe she told something to her sister, but I didn’t even know,” the grieving mother said, crying. Police have currently registered a case of unnatural death. Officials are now examining the handwriting of the suicide note and are trying to reach out to the ‘white collar’ culprits by recording statements of other children of the class, school staff and family.
Did the death occur while jogging or was the PT teacher lathicharged?
This Anekal incident had not yet cooled down when another horrifying story from a renowned residential school in Bengaluru North came to light. Earlier this week, a 12-year-old innocent class six boy died under suspicious circumstances. The school administration came on camera and very clearly called it an ‘accident’ and claimed that the boy had suddenly fallen while jogging on the campus. But, the marks present on the child’s body blew away the school’s lies. The family’s direct allegation is that just before his death, the school’s PT (PE) teacher had beaten the child brutally. After a huge uproar and protest by the family members, the police have finally registered a case of physical abuse against the accused PT teacher and started investigation.
What was written in the suicide note? Allegation of Rs 20 fine and threat of TC
According to police, the purported note left by the student mentions punishment by a teacher for not completing homework. The student alleged that she was fined Rs 20 and was also threatened with transfer certificate (TC). It was reportedly written in the note that she had become mentally disturbed after this incident. However, the police are still investigating the authenticity of the note and the allegations made in it. The investigating agencies are trying to understand what exactly happened to the student in the school and whether she was facing any kind of pressure or harassment for a long time.

From Jaipur to Bengaluru: Are our children suffocating in closed rooms?
This is not just Bengaluru’s story. Some time ago in Jaipur also, a 9 year old innocent girl committed suicide after being fed up of bullying. Although the police filed a charge sheet against the principal and the class teacher after the CCTV footage surfaced, the victim’s family is still searching for justice because the charges are very light. Be it the incident in Jaipur or these two recent cases in Bengaluru, they clearly indicate that today’s educational institutions are turning into ‘torture chambers’ instead of becoming ‘safe havens’ for children.

Silent screams and dying mental health: who is accountable now?
These tragic accidents have sparked a serious debate about the mental health of students and safety procedures in schools. The immense pressure of studies, inhuman behavior of teachers and harassment in hostels are hollowing the children from within. Children often remain silent out of fear of what society or their parents will say. Educationists and psychologists believe that now the time has come when a mandatory and strong mental health support system (counselling) should be implemented in every school, where children can express their views without any fear. Police say that both the cases are being investigated in depth and strict legal action will be taken as soon as the report comes, but the question is whether this action will be able to fill the lap of those mothers again?
