Maharshi Dadhichi Story in Hindi: Philanthropists of ancient times have been described in Hindu religious scriptures. Whenever the name of philanthropists comes up, the first name that comes to people’s mind is that of philanthropist Karna. Karna was the son of Sun God and Mother Kunti. Karna of the Mahabharata period is famous for his bravery. After worshiping Sun God, if anyone asked Karna for anything, he would donate it to him. Taking advantage of this, Indra Dev had asked Karna for his armor and earrings. Similarly, King Bali was also a great donor. He was the grandson of Prahlad. Lord Vishnu had come in Vaman incarnation asking for donations.
At that time Lord Vaman had asked for three paces of land from King Bali. As soon as the king promised to give three steps of land to Lord Vaman, he measured the earth in the first step and the entire sky in the second step. Then King Bali put his head forward for his third step. Lord Vaman was very pleased with the devotion and sacrifice of King Bali and made him the king of the underworld. The donations of Karna and King Bali are considered supreme, but let us know which Maharishi has been called a great donor?
Story of Maharishi Dadhichi
Maharishi Dadhichi has been called a great donor in Hindu religious scriptures and texts. Maharishi Dadhichi’s mother’s name was Chitti and father’s name was Atharva. He had dedicated his entire life to devotion to Shiva. He was a complete knowledgeer of Vedas and scriptures etc. Maharishi Dadhichi performed severe penance for the welfare of the people. Due to his penance, unnecessary fear had arisen in the mind of Lord Indra. Due to penance and meditation, all three worlds were illuminated by the brilliance of Maharishi Dadhichi. On the other hand, the glory of Lord Indra was decreasing day by day.
Due to this Indra Dev started becoming jealous of Maharishi Dadhichi. Not only this, Indra sent Kamadeva and an Apsara to Maharishi Dadhichi to break his penance, but they could not succeed in breaking his penance. After this, Indra arrived with his army with the intention of killing him, but his weapons failed to penetrate the impenetrable armor of Maharishi’s penance. At last Indra returned to heaven. Some time after this incident, a demon named Vritrasura captured Devlok and drove out all the gods.
Why is Maharishi Dadhichi’s donation called Mahadan?
After this all the gods went to Lord Brahma with their sorrow. Then Lord Brahma told him that if Maharishi Dadhichi donated his bones, Vritrasura could be destroyed by making a thunderbolt from those bones. Then, hesitantly, Devraj Indra approached Maharishi Dadhichi and hesitantly but asked for his ashes for the welfare of the three worlds. On this, Maharishi agreed to donate his ashes for the benefit of humans and gods. Maharishi left his body through Yoga Vidya.
Then a Vraj named ‘Tejwan’ was made from his bones. With this Vraj, Indra Dev killed Vritrasura and freed the three worlds from his fear and terror. Also the gods got the world again.
