Normal life has been disrupted due to continuous torrential rains in Khatima, Uttarakhand. The Meteorological Department has issued red and orange alerts warning of heavy rain in the next two days. Four people were rescued after a house collapsed in Haridwar.
Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [भारत]July 10 (ANI): Incessant torrential rains have disrupted normal life in Khatima. There were dense clouds here in the early hours of Friday.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the region is expected to have generally cloudy skies with isolated rain or thundershowers.
The Meteorological Department has also warned of heavy to very heavy rain with lightning and thunder in the next two days.
IMD has issued red and orange alert for heavy rain in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand on Friday.
According to the weather department, at least 17 states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra are likely to receive moderate to heavy rain during the day. IMD has issued orange alert for Uttarakhand on Friday.
Rescue operation in Haridwar
Earlier on Thursday, Uttarakhand Police along with the fire service launched a rescue operation after receiving information about a house collapse near Vishnu Ghat railway station in Haridwar. All four people trapped under the debris were rescued safely, including a disabled person, who was pulled out with the help of a stretcher.
Water level of rivers increased in Rudraprayag
Meanwhile, as the water level of major rivers including Alaknanda and Mandakini has risen due to incessant rains in Rudraprayag district on Thursday, the district administration is closely monitoring the situation. However, the water level of both the rivers is still below the warning and danger mark.
Monsoon rains continue in the entire district, due to which the level of rivers is fluctuating from time to time. The district administration has urged residents and pilgrims not to go near rivers and streams and strictly follow the weather advisory issued by the IMD.
Latest data of water level of rivers
According to official data, the Alaknanda river is currently flowing at 623.153 metres, while its warning level is 626 meters and danger level is 627 metres.
The water level of Mandakini river in Rudraprayag has been recorded at 622.230 meters, while the warning level is 625 meters and the danger level is 626 meters. The water level of Mandakini river in Ganga Nagar is at 799.200 meters, below the danger mark of 804 meters. Meanwhile, the water level of Mandakini in Gaurikund was recorded at 1,974.820 metres, which is below the danger level of 1,976 metres.
Among the rainfall data, Jakholi recorded the highest rainfall of 46 mm, followed by Ukhimath at 23 mm and Rudraprayag district headquarters at 20 mm. Due to the persistence of monsoon conditions in the area, the minimum temperature of the district was recorded at 24 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature was 28 degrees Celsius. (ANI)
