Kolkata (West Bengal) [भारत]July 9 (ANI): The West Bengal government has increased the monthly salary of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) from Rs 6,250 to Rs 11,250 per month. This increase will be effective from August 1. According to a memorandum issued by the Health and Family Welfare Department on Thursday, the issue of increasing the monthly fixed honorarium of Asha workers was under active consideration of the state government for some time.

“The Governor has approved increasing the monthly fixed honorarium of ASHA workers from Rs 6,250 to Rs 11,250, with effect from August 1, 2026, in addition to the monthly performance-based incentive from the NHM fund,” the memorandum said.

It further said that the order was issued with the concurrence of the Finance Department of the Government of West Bengal, citing an order dated July 8, and the required funds would be released in due course.

Who will get how much salary?

According to the revised rates, the monthly salary of Asha workers has been fixed at Rs 11,250. The revised monthly salary of Anganwadi workers has been fixed at Rs 14,000, while Anganwadi helpers will get Rs 11,800.

The protest was going on for a long time

In January, ASHA workers from West Bengal had protested in front of the Swasthya Bhawan in Salt Lake over their demands, including increase in allowances. The police had deployed barricades on the road to stop them.

This increase has come when Asha workers in West Bengal were demanding increase in their allowances for a long time and were protesting for their demands. (ANI)
