Padma Award
The Central Government has announced the Padma Awards for the year 2026. This time a total of 131 people have been announced to be awarded Padma Awards. These include 5 Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri. This honor is given to those who have made excellent contributions in different areas of the country. These awards are announced every year on the eve of Republic Day.
This time former Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, famous actor Dharmendra and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) founder Shibu Soren have been posthumously awarded Padma Vibhushan. This is the second highest civilian honor in the country. At the same time, playback singer Alka Yagnik, former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Bhagat Singh Koshyari, veteran South Indian film actor Mammootty and famous banker Uday Kotak have been awarded Padma Bhushan. This honor has been given for their long-term contributions in their respective fields.
What are Padma Awards?
- Padma Awards are counted among the highest civilian honors of India. These are given in three categories.
- Padma Vibhushan: For exceptional and distinguished service
- Padma Bhushan: For distinguished service of a high order
- Padma Shri: For notable contribution in any field
The government says that it is important to have an element of public service in the work of the people selected for these awards, so that the society can get inspiration from them.
Padma Awards 2026: Prominent Businessman
- Uday Kotak (Padma Bhushan): For distinguished contribution to the banking sector.
- Satyanarayan Nuwal (Padma Shri): Chairman, Solar Industries India, for indigenous ammunition in the defense sector.
- TT Jagannathan (Padma Shri – posthumous): Known as the ‘Pressure Cooker King’, head of TTK Group.
- Ashok Khade (Padma Shri): Dalit entrepreneur, who made a mark in the corporate world.
- Nilesh Mandlewala (Padma Shri): Textile businessman and founder of ‘Donate Life’ organization.
These awards are given by the Government of India for distinguished contribution to the country’s economy and society.
