Pakistan cricket great’s son accused of sexual assault by housemaid

New Delhi: Pakistan cricket great Abdul Qadir’s son, Sulaman Qadir, has been accused of sexual assault. A housemaid has accused Sulaman of sexually assaulting her at his farmhouse in Lahore, Pakistan. The news has rocked Pakistan cricket as Sulaman himself is a former first-class cricketer.

As per reports in the Pakistani media, Sulaman was arrested by the police after the maid filed an FIR, alleging rape and sexual assault. In her complaint, the housemaid said she used to work at Sulaman’s house and that the 41-year-old forcibly took her to his farmhouse, where he raped her.

As per the police, the victim was sent for medical examination, following which it will be proved if she was sexually assaulted by the former cricketer. Meanwhile, the police have also detained Sulaman for questioning after an FIR was filed against him.

Who is Sulaman Qadir?

Sulaman is one of the four sons of former Pakistan spinner Qadir, who is regarded as one of the best spinners to have played for the country. Qadir, a master of wrist spin, made the Googly famous and gained global repute, thanks to his exploits in international cricket.

Qadir played 67 Tests and 104 ODIs from 1977 to 1993. He made his debut for Pakistan in a Test match against England in December 1977 and went on to become a vital cog of the team across formats.

He picked up 236 wickets in 67 Tests and 132 wickets in 104 ODIs for Pakistan. He was also a wizard in Pakistan’s domestic cricket circuit, picking up a staggering 960 wickets in just 209 matches, including 21 ten-wicket hauls.

Sulaman made his professional debut as a cricketer in 2015. He played 26 first-class matches and 40 List A games till 2013. The former domestic cricketer works as a cricket coach at the Abdul Qadir cricket acdemy in Lahore. The latest incident has brought shame to the family of the legendary Qadir, who passed away aged 63 in Lahore in September 2019 after suffering a cardiac arrest.
