Surat (Gujarat) [भारत]July 10 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Thursday reviewed the flood situation in Surat with officials and MLAs along with Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi in ​​the presence of Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil. After the meeting, the Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat praised Surat residents and relief agencies for their teamwork during the floods.

Speaking to reporters, Sanghvi said, “Many areas of Surat faced flood situation due to heavy rains on July 7. Considering the previous record of rains in this city, this was the heaviest rain ever seen in Surat. The people of Surat worked as a team to come out of this difficult situation. They helped government agencies wherever they could. It was a challenging time. There were 7-8 areas where there was severe waterlogging. NDRF, SDRF and other agencies worked hard to evacuate and relocate people. CM held a review meeting in Surat today. CM has announced Rs 500 crore for a project to stop creek water from entering the city.”

Emphasis on flood prevention measures in South Gujarat

Valsad BJP MP Dhawal Patel said the Gujarat Chief Minister has chaired a high-level review meeting with local leaders and administrators to address the serious damage caused to property and implement flood-prevention measures in the submerged areas of south Gujarat. Dhawal Patel told reporters, “Due to heavy rains in the last few days, waterlogging was seen in low-lying areas of Surat, Navsari and Valsad. This led to damage to many properties. In view of this, our CM visited the areas of South Gujarat. He held a review meeting of the situation in Navsari and Valsad. The meeting was attended by all MLAs, mayors and district administrations. The state government is ready to take all measures to prevent this from happening again.”

NDRF launched rescue operation

On Wednesday, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams conducted rescue operations and successfully evacuated 85 people, including 36 men, 27 women and 22 children, from Shriram Nagar Society in Surat, Gujarat. Many areas of Surat are facing problems caused by floods. (ANI)
