Schemes will reach every fisherman’s home: CM Sawant
Panaji (Goa) [भारत]July 10 (ANI): Reiterating the state government’s commitment towards the coastal community, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has announced that welfare schemes are being increasingly targeted to ensure that they reach the doorstep of every person associated with the state’s traditional fishing sector. The Chief Minister was speaking at a special program organized by the Fisheries Department on the occasion of National Fisheries Day, which was attended by over a thousand fish farmers, aquaculture entrepreneurs and traditional fishermen.
Chief Minister Sawant said, “We organized a program today to celebrate National Fisheries Day on behalf of the Fisheries Department of the Government of Goa. Along with me, Fisheries Minister Neelkanth Halarankar and more than a thousand fish farmers, including traditional fishermen who go out to sea, gathered here today.”
Special attention to women fishermen
Emphasizing the important role played by women in driving Goa’s local fish economy, Sawant pointed out that dedicated programs were launched to support them during the day. “Notably, women associated with the region were also present, and a program was organized to distribute traditional fishing kits to them,” he said.
The State Government distributed financial assistance and equipment under both central and local welfare frameworks to promote the livelihoods of coastal stakeholders. Reiterating the vision of a self-reliant blue economy, the Chief Minister said, “Today, benefits were extended to all under Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana’ as well as various state-level schemes. Our government will always work to ensure that these schemes reach the doorstep of every single fisherman in Goa.”
The program concluded with interactive sessions where departmental experts briefed the traditional fish workers about modern navigation and safety equipment provided by the administration. (ANI)
