UDHAMPUR, Jan 24: Following death of a patient due to alleged absence of doctors in Emergency of Udhampur District Hospital, MLA Udhampur West, Pawan Gupta staged a protest and demanded action against the erring doctors.
Immediately after coming to know about the death of the patient and alleged absence of doctors in the Emergecy, MLA Pawan Gupta rushed to the hospital along with his supporters and sought explanation for gross negligence. He demanded action against those responsible and the deployment of doctors at the hospital 24/7.
Pawan Gupta said mobile phone location of all doctors and staff on duty should be checked for ascertaining the truth and consequent action against those found absent.
In the morning, Beopar Mandal Udhampur also held a protest demonstration against the alleged failure of District Hospital Udhampur administration in ensuring presence of doctors on duty.
A number of shopkeepers and locals assembled at Udhampur Bus Stand and started raising slogans against the District Hospital administration as well as the Health Minister. They alleged that some doctors and staff of the District Hospital do not perform their duties sincerely and the senior doctors are rarely seen on the duty.
“Though the name of the hospital has been changed from district hospital to Govt Medical College, the bitter truth is that the premise does not have the facilities of even a public health center,” they said and mocked that the hospital should be renamed as “referral hospital” as even small cases are being referred to Jammu by the doctors.
