Strong matches were seen so far in the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026. Especially the competition between the big teams of the tournament seemed tough. But on Friday a match was played which surprised everyone. This match played between Australia and Sri Lanka ended in just 31 overs, in which a total of 119 runs were scored. The reason for this was Australian fast bowler Will Byrom, who destroyed the Sri Lankan batting with his speed and edge and bundled out the entire team for just 58 runs.

A bowler crushed Sri Lanka

This match was played in Group A on 23 January in Windhoek, Namibia, in which Sri Lanka batted first. Sri Lanka’s start was slow and very bad. Till the third over of the innings, the team’s score was only 3 runs and its 2 wickets had fallen. Charles Lachmand took both the wickets. After this, it was Will Byrom’s turn and this young pacer started sending the Sri Lankan batsmen back to the pavilion one by one. Within no time the entire team collapsed for just 58 runs.

The Sri Lankan innings lasted only 18.5 overs, of which 6.5 overs i.e. 41 balls were bowled by Will Byrom. In these 41 balls, the Australian pacer had sacked half of the Sri Lankan team. In his spell of 6.5 overs, Byrom gave only 14 runs and took 5 wickets. The condition of the Sri Lankan innings was such that 9 out of 11 batsmen were out on single digit scores. Only Kavija Gamage (10) and Chamik Heenatigala (14) could touch double figures.

Australia won easily

This target was never going to be difficult for Australia and this is exactly what happened. However, the team lost the wicket of Will Malajuk in the first over itself, who had made the record of the fastest century in the Under-19 World Cup a few days ago. But after this, Nitish Samuel and Steven Hogan together helped the team reach the target in 12 overs. Australia won the match by 9 wickets by scoring 62 runs.
