Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has instructed banks to improve the credit-deposit ratio in the state. He also reviewed social welfare schemes and ordered completion of student hostels as well as automatic payment of old age pension to eligible citizens.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a meeting of the State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) at the Secretariat. During this, the CM directed the banks to lay special emphasis on improving the credit-deposit (CD) ratio i.e. loan-deposit ratio in the entire state.

CM Dhami told the officials that in the districts where the CD ratio is low, outreach camps should be organized regularly to increase the flow of loans. He expressed concern over the poor credit-deposit ratio in Bageshwar, Pauri Garhwal, Almora, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh and Tehri Garhwal and asked to take immediate corrective steps.

He also stressed that “people should not face any problem in availing the benefits of various public welfare schemes of the government.”

Review of social welfare schemes

Apart from this, on Wednesday CM Dhami also reviewed the functioning of the Social Welfare Department. He directed the officials that all welfare schemes should be designed keeping in mind not only the needs of today but also the challenges and needs of the next 25 years. He said the plans should remain effective over time and serve as “best practice” models for other states.

Instructions for hostel construction and financial management

The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that the construction of Babu Jagjivan Ram Boys Hostel in Doiwala (Dehradun), Babu Jagjivan Ram Boys Hostel in Pains (Nainital), and Babu Jagjivan Ram Girls Hostel in Someshwar (Almora) is completed by October. With this, Scheduled Caste students will soon be able to get better residential and educational facilities. According to a release, he also directed to ensure efficient financial management and proper utilization of resources during the implementation and construction of the schemes.

Automatic pension for senior citizens

The Chief Minister further directed that eligible citizens who have completed 60 years of age should be automatically brought under the Old Age Pension Scheme, so that unnecessary procedural delays are eliminated and they can get pension benefits on time.

More than Rs 145 crore released through DBT

During the meeting held in the auditorium of the Chief Minister’s residence, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami transferred the pension installments of June 2026 under various social welfare department schemes through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) “one-click” system. A total of 980,950 beneficiaries received approximately Rs 145.42 crore directly into their bank accounts. Of this, the Central Government contributed approximately Rs 7.02 crore, while the State Government contributed approximately Rs 138.40 crore.
