Pushkar Singh Dhami: A look at the major decisions implemented during the 5 years of Pushkar Singh Dhami government in Uttarakhand. Know the major achievements of the government, from implementing UCC to the country’s strictest anti-copying law, recruitment reforms, transparent administration and development projects.

The government in Uttarakhand led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has tried to establish itself as a policy-based and stable government in the last five years. The government claims that political stability has provided an opportunity to implement long-pending reforms. During this period, many steps were taken like Uniform Civil Code (UCC), strict laws to prevent cheating in recruitment examinations, development of infrastructure and transparent administration.

Uttarakhand became the first state in the country to implement UCC

The biggest decision of the Dhami government’s tenure was to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) from January 27, 2025. With this, Uttarakhand became the first state in the country to do so. Under this law, a uniform legal system was implemented for all citizens in matters like marriage, divorce, inheritance and live-in relationships.

The government says that the purpose of this law is to implement a uniform civil system instead of separate personal laws on the basis of religion and to promote gender justice. Along with this, efforts have also been made to bring legal clarity on issues related to practices like child marriage, polygamy, triple talaq, Halala and Iddat.

Strict law to prevent cheating in recruitment examinations

After the paper leak cases of recruitment examinations, the government implemented the Uttarakhand Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means in Recruitment) Act in the year 2023. It is considered to be included in the strictest anti-copying laws of the country.

Under this law, there is a provision of life imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 10 crore for organized copying gangs, coaching institutes, printing presses and other culprits. Whereas candidates who use unfair means can face jail, financial penalty and ban from competitive examinations for a maximum of 10 years. The government says its aim is to ensure transparency and merit-based selection in the recruitment process.

Emphasis also on development projects and administrative reforms

The government has also claimed to give priority to projects related to roads, connectivity, health, education, tourism and industrial development during its tenure. The administration says that due to continued political stability, the implementation of schemes has accelerated, transparency has increased and the delivery of government services has become more effective than before. The Dhami government believes that the legislative and administrative reforms undertaken during these five years will prove to be important steps towards laying a strong foundation for the long-term development of Uttarakhand.
