Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnav at WEF.
A big news has come out during the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF), which has raised new hopes regarding the trade relations between India and America. US President Donald Trump has not only praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, but has also hinted at a ‘good trade deal’ with India. After this statement, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave her reaction and called it very encouraging for India. This news matters for Indians because strong trade relations with America directly affect our economy and employment opportunities.
In this global meeting going on in Davos, Switzerland, Donald Trump spoke openly about his relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He described PM Modi as a ‘fantastic man’ i.e. an excellent person and called him his good friend. Trump’s statement that he respects PM Modi a lot shows the strengthening of India’s credibility on the international stage.
Trump said clearly, “I respect your Prime Minister very much. He is a wonderful person and my friend. We are going to make a very good deal with India.” It is considered very important diplomatically for an American President to use such words for the Indian leadership on a public platform.
Why did Ashwini Vaishnav call it ‘encouraging’?
Just a day after Trump’s statement, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave her positive response to it. When asked about Trump’s comment, he told PTI that this statement is very encouraging for India. Vaishnav stressed that today India’s position in global trade matters is very strong and we are deeply connected with the world.
Vaishnav believes that a powerful country like America talking about a ‘good deal’ with India is proof that the world is now seeing India as a big and serious trading partner. This is not only a political statement, but also a seal of confidence in India’s economic potential.
India’s growing influence in Davos
At present, India’s presence in Davos is very strong. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav is leading the Indian delegation. Not only the ministers of the Central Government are included in this team, but the Chief Ministers and senior ministers of many states are also present there. Apart from this, more than 100 Indian CEOs are also making their presence felt on this global platform to showcase India’s economic strength.
