In historic first, US-Russia-Ukraine to meet in UAE over war and peace

New Delhi: The Russian invasion of Ukraine and the ensuing war have kept global politics on edge. Now, there is going to be a trilateral meeting between the two parties along with the United States.

The meeting between the three parties

On January 23 and 24, a meeting will take place between Ukraine, the US, and Russia in the United Arab Emirates. It was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a panel discussion after his speech on Thursday at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland’s Davos.

Zelensky hopes for an end to war

Hoping for a positive outcome from a meeting that is a historic first, Zelensky said, “Tomorrow and the day after tomorrow we will have a trilateral meeting, it’s better than not having any dialogue.” Notably, he had a meeting with US President Donald Trump, which went on for an hour. Trump called the discussion ‘good’ in what can bear great significance for Ukraine’s future.

He said, “Our guys are meeting with the Americans today, then the Americans are meeting with the Russians tomorrow, tonight – when, I don’t know, maybe Putin is sleeping, you said no one knows what’s in his head.” He added, “You know, everyone should be ready, not just Ukraine, and this is important for us. So we’ll see what the results will be,” and did not reveal any further details of the meeting.

Zelensky met Trump in Florida

Recently, Trump met Zelensky in Florida for talks to end Ukraine’s war with Russia at the earliest. Both leaders met for three hours, after which Trump said that the meeting was ‘wonderful’. He said, “We discussed several things. As you know, I had an excellent phone call with President Putin… and I do think we’re getting a lot closer.” However, the US President did not reveal the agreed-upon terms for security guarantees in percentages but added that it could be “close to 95%”.
