A new research from Australia challenges this notion. The study has revealed that after a heart attack, heart tissue has the ability to repair itself and this can lead to gradual heart repair. This research has been published in the prestigious medical journal Circulation Research.

According to research, after a heart attack, the process of formation of new muscle cells starts in the human heart. According to Dr. Robert Hume, the first author of this study and cardiologist at the University of Sydney, till now it was believed in medical science that the part of the heart that gets damaged after a heart attack can never be repaired. For this reason, heart patients were advised to take extra precautions. But our research shows that despite scar formation in the heart, new cells and muscles can develop, which can also reduce the risk of heart disease in the future.

He said that this repair process definitely takes place in the heart, but it happens at a very slow pace, which is not able to completely compensate for the serious damage done to the heart.
