Gas Cylinders into Patalganga River: Around 3,000 gas cylinders from a bottling plant of HPCL were washed away into the Patalganga river due to heavy rains and floods in Raigad district of Maharashtra. Regarding which the Collector has given a strict warning against touching.
Raigarh. Rain is becoming a havoc of nature in Maharashtra. In which houses and cars are seen flowing like straw. Meanwhile, torrential rains and severe floods in Khalapur area of Raigarh district created a situation like a major industrial emergency. Here, about 3,000 gas cylinders from a bottling plant of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) have flowed into the Patalganga river. Seeing the cylinders flowing, there was a competition among the people to loot them. But the administration has issued a strict warning, the collector said – the cylinder you are picking up may cause an explosion. So stay away from him.
Cylinders flowed like waste from HPCL plant
- The incident took place at HPCL’s bottling plant located at Chawane in Panvel taluka. Due to continuous rains in Khalapur taluka, Patalganga river is in spate. Thousands of cylinders, both filled and empty, were swept away into the water due to the strong current of the river.
- Khalapur Police Inspector (PI) Abhijeet Bhujbal has confirmed the incident. After this, the district administration has issued an important appeal to the common people asking them to be extremely careful.
Do not touch the cylinder under any circumstances
- Raigarh District Collector Kishan Javale has given a serious warning to the people living on the banks of the river. The Collector said, “If anyone sees a gas cylinder in the river or on its banks, do not touch it under any circumstances. Do not try to move it or take it home.”
- Explaining the huge danger involved, the administration said that it is impossible to find out what is the technical condition of the cylinders washed away in the flood or whether they contain gas or not. Officials have warned that any kind of tampering can lead to gas leakage or a major explosion, due to which there is a possibility of huge loss of life and property.
- The administration said, “At present, the administration, disaster management department and the concerned company are jointly running a search operation to find the missing cylinders.
- People have been appealed to maintain a safe distance from any such cylinder and if they see anything suspicious, immediately inform the local police or disaster management department. Search teams are keeping an eye on the course of Patalganga river so that the missing cylinders can be recovered as soon as possible and any untoward incident can be prevented.
