Karnataka: Woman arrested from Chikkamagaluru for blackmailing head of monastery

New Delhi: The Bengaluru CCB Police arrested a woman, identified as Spurthi, for allegedly blackmailing the head of a prestigious monastery in the state. She reportedly also extorted money from the man. The accused had managed to extort Rs 4.5 lakh from the Swamiji and was forcing him to pay another Rs 1 crore to her.

Woman introduced herself as student to Swamiji

According to the police, Spurthi contacted Swamiji some 5 months ago. She had reportedly introduced herself as a student in Tiptur. Later on however, she started to blackmail him and asked for money. She also threatened to kill him if he did not pay up.

The police said that afraid of the threats from the woman and her associates, Swamiji paid her Rs 4.5 lakh when he visited Bengaluru. But even after receiving the money she continued to threaten him and demanded another Rs 1 crore.

Tired of the continuous threats, Swamiji decided to file a police complaint and he approached the CCB Police in Bengaluru. The police arrested Spurthi and remanded her in judicial custody.

Honeytrap attempt 2 years back against Swamiji

According to reports, this same Swamiji had also been targeted by a gang 2 years ago. This was also a honeytrap like the current case, and at the time, the Bengaluru Police had arrested 3 people who were demanding Rs 6 crore from him. Now he is once again facing the menace of blackmail.

Following the current blackmailing attempts, Swamiji has approached court. He obtained a restraining order on the dissemination of any photos or videos related to him. Police are still investigating the matter.
