Kia Sonet crosses 5 lakh sales in India, Accounts for 35% of brand’s domestic volumes

New Delhi: Kia India’s subcompact SUV, the Sonet, has crossed total sales of 5 lakh units since it was introduced in the Indian market. The company said the Sonet now makes up around 35 per cent of its domestic sales. The model has remained consistent in demand, recording yearly sales of more than 1 lakh units for the last two years.

Kia stated that customers are largely choosing higher variants of the Sonet. This trend is linked to demand for premium features and connected car technology. The Sonet is currently priced from Rs 7.30 lakh (ex-showroom). In the Indian market, it competes with models such as the Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Mahindra XUV300 and Tata Nexon.

Kia Sonet is shipped to around 70 countries from India

Apart from domestic sales, the Sonet has also seen strong demand in export markets. The SUV has been shipped to nearly 70 countries, including markets in the Middle East, Africa, Central and South America, Mexico and the Asia-Pacific region. Kia confirmed that over 100,000 units of the Sonet have been exported so far. The model is manufactured at Kia’s Anantapur plant in Andhra Pradesh as part of the company’s ‘Make in India, for the World’ approach.

In terms of options, the Sonet is offered with multiple engine and gearbox combinations across different trims. This allows buyers to choose based on performance and transmission preference. It continues to compete with well-established players in the subcompact SUV category.

Kia India’s presence and production capacity

Kia India currently has a presence in 369 cities across the country. Since starting operations in August 2019, the automaker has launched nine models in India and dispatched nearly 1.5 million vehicles from its Anantapur facility. The plant has an annual production capacity of 300,000 units. Kia also stated that there are more than 4.95 lakh connected Kia vehicles currently on Indian roads.

Commenting on the milestone, Sunhack Park, Chief Sales Officer, Kia India, said, “Crossing the 5 lakh sales milestone for the Sonet is a moment of pride for all of us at Kia India. Every Sonet sold represents a customer who believed in Kia, and this is a powerful endorsement of the trust Indian buyers have shown us.”
