Three people were killed and one injured when an under-construction four-storey building collapsed in Delhi’s Rohini. Delhi Fire Service and NDRF conducted rescue operations. The police have registered an FIR in this matter and started investigation. The dead have been identified.
New Delhi [भारत]July 9 (ANI): Two more people were declared dead after a four-storey under-construction building collapsed in the national capital’s Rohini area, taking the death toll to three. The officers provided this information.
Delhi Fire Service (DFS) pulled out a total of three people from the debris, one of whom was injured, while two were declared dead. According to reports, even before DFS reached the spot, local people pulled out a person from the debris and took him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Meanwhile, Station Officer Naveen Thakran said that a total of four people were buried under the debris, who were rescued by B.R. Ambedkar hospital, where 3 of them were declared dead, while one person was injured.
Identification of dead and injured
The deceased have been identified as 20-year-old Noorul Huda, resident of Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, 51-year-old Ram Dua, resident of Rohini Sector-16 and 42-year-old Ram, a local resident of Rohini Sector-16. The injured person has been identified as Saddam, 34, a resident of Dwarka in north-west Delhi, who is admitted in the hospital. The rescue operation has ended, although a DFS team is still deployed at the spot as a precautionary measure. This incident happened on Thursday afternoon. It was a ground-plus-four-storey structure, covering approximately 52 square metres. It was originally two DDA flats of 26-26 metres.
Police registered FIR and started investigation
Earlier, Rohini Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shashank Jaiswal said that after receiving the information, he reached the spot, following which the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), District Magistrate (DM), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel and other officials also arrived to launch a joint rescue operation. An FIR has also been registered under relevant sections. He said, “We received information around 4:30 pm today that a building had collapsed. As soon as the news was received, the SHO, the rest of the staff and I immediately reached the spot. The SDM, DM, NDRF personnel and other officers also reached within a short time. We started a joint rescue operation. When the power supply was cut, we made arrangements for lighting. We are working in close coordination and providing all possible assistance. The rescue operation is still going on. One death confirmed.” The person was declared dead on arrival. As per reports, all the teams including NDRF are under construction.
5 fire tenders were sent to the spot
Divisional Officer of Delhi Fire Service, A.K. Jaiswal said five fire tenders along with assistant divisional officers were deployed for the rescue operation. He also said that JCB was used to clear the debris and search for the trapped people. He said, “The call was received at 4:19 pm; initially five fire tenders along with an assistant divisional officer were sent. We learned that there were two buildings here, and construction of the third floor was going on, when the structure suddenly collapsed. Meanwhile, the Delhi Fire Service team successfully conducted a rescue operation and pulled out one survivor. Since there is no fire brigade here, our focus is on rescue operations. We are trying to remove the debris with the help of a JCB and see what is happening.” “I’m assisting if anyone is trapped down there.” (ANI)
