Shubman Gill On Test Cricket: Team India is currently playing against New Zealand. Today i.e. from January 21, the 5-match T20 series is going to start, which is very important keeping in mind the T20 World Cup 2026. However, India’s Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill is not a part of it. In such a situation, he has already prepared his plans for the World Test Championship and 2027 World Cup. Meanwhile, he has also placed a demand before BCCI, which all the players of the Test team may have to accept.
Shubman Gill placed this demand in front of BCCI
Shubhman Gill has given important suggestions to strengthen the longer format in Indian cricket. India’s Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill believes that the regular players of the Test team should play at least one match in Ranji Trophy. He says that this will give the players maximum opportunity to practice in red ball cricket. Especially before the IPL, because Team India does not have to play any test match till August.
According to media reports, Gill has discussed this issue with coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar. The management has also supported this idea so that the players do not stay away from red-ball cricket for a long time. Recently, India had to face 0-2 defeat in the Test series against South Africa, a major reason behind which was said to be less preparation time after the format change. Gill said that it is difficult to play matches in India immediately after returning from abroad. Referring to the old days, he said that around 2016-2018, there were no such tight schedules where players had to play matches only on the fourth day. He suggests that there should be some relaxation in the calendar, like a gap of 10-12 days, so that the players get a chance to rest and prepare.
Plan also made for 2027 World Cup
Shubman Gill is also focusing on preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Together with the team management, they are making future strategies. Gill is the captain of the Test and ODI teams, but is not included in the 2026 T20 World Cup squad. Even after the recent ODI series against New Zealand, he has not taken rest and has decided to play for Punjab in the Ranji Trophy. Actually, the next Test assignment is on Sri Lanka tour in August 2025, where a two-match series will be played. In such a situation, Gill does not want to miss any opportunity to practice.
