Norway and Manchester City footballer Erling Haaland has surprised fans by releasing a remix of his old rap song ‘Kygo jo’ with DJ Kygo. This song was made by his rap group ‘Flow Kingz’ in 2016, which has now gone viral again.
Norway and Manchester City superstar striker Erling Haaland has surprised fans by releasing a remix of his old, viral rap song ‘Kygo jo’ with Norwegian DJ and music producer Kygo.
Rap group ‘Flow Kingz’ and old song
Before Haaland became known as a goalscoring machine in his Bundesliga and Premier League appearances for Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City, the Norway striker also dabbled as a rapper alongside his national under-17 teammates Erik Bothim and Erik Tobias Sandberg. Together they formed a group named ‘Flo Kings’. In 2016, when Haaland played for club Bryn in Norway, the trio released a song titled ‘Kygo jo’. Now, when Norway is returning to the FIFA World Cup after 28 years and Haaland has scored seven goals for his team so far, the song has made its way into the viral charts of social media and has 8.9 million views on YouTube.
In his first interview since signing a deal with English football giants Manchester City in 2022, Haaland said of his rap group, as reported by Goal.com, “It’s a group of three guys. A friend – Eric Bothim – and also Eric Tobias, we’re good friends. We were getting a bit bored, so we decided to make a rap song!”
Remix released after victory over Brazil
Earlier, Kygo, who has worked with and remixed tracks from top artists like Ed Sheeran, Selena Gomez, Ellie Goulding and Imagine Dragons, had talked about releasing a remix of the song after Norway defeated Brazil in the Round of 16 match. After Haaland scored twice to help his team reach the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals with a 2-1 win, Kygo has finally released a song to commemorate the historic moment.
Holland posted the song on her Instagram account, writing in the caption, “This is such a memorable moment! Thank you, @kygomusic. Does this mean I’m officially an artist now? https://www.instagram.com/p/Dai1BBfFGi4/?img_index=1”
Now clash with England in quarter finals
Norway will now face England in the quarterfinal match on July 12 at 2:30 am IST in Miami. In this match, Holland will face England’s charismatic captain Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham.
Holland’s strong performance in the World Cup
During the match against Brazil, Haaland’s goal tally increased to seven after scoring two goals, making him the joint-highest goalscorer in his World Cup debut since Poland’s Grzegorz Leto in 1974. Haaland is scoring a goal every 14 touches this tournament, the lowest ratio for any player scoring three or more goals in a single World Cup edition in the last 60 years.
Haaland has scored seven goals in just 18 shots at the 2026 World Cup, giving him a conversion rate of 39%. This is the best finishing efficiency (with 15 or more shots) in a single World Cup since Gary Lineker in 1986, who had six goals on 15 shots, a rate of 40 percent.
With this win, Norway is the only team among the 91 countries that Brazil has faced so far that has never defeated them. Brazil has two draws and three defeats in the five matches between the two teams. (ANI)
