‘Confidence in Each Other Made the Final Comfortable’: Manav Surana-Pu

Manav Surana and Puja Surana clinched the Intermediate Mixed Doubles title at the Kolkata Pickleball Championship after a dominant final on January 18. Playing at TurfXL in Kolkata, the duo defeated Rahul Sharma and Nabila Sayed 15-4 to cap an impressive run during the six-day tournament.

The championship featured over 400 participants from across the country and concluded with strong praise for its organisation and competitive depth.

Speaking to Pickleball Now, Manav said the pair were confident heading into the final and never allowed the momentum to shift. “I think in the finals, we were always up and never let the lead go away. We had a simple plan to keep the game very simple and play to our strengths. We followed that, and it was a comfortable win in the end,” he said.

Manav also credited Puja as her form was key to their successful campaign. “I was very confident we would win the final after an amazing rally she played in the semifinals. I could see she was in very good touch, so I just had to support her and she delivered for us,” he added.

Apart from his on-court success, Manav also served as the organiser of the Kolkata Pickleball Championship. He praised the active participation from players and said the smooth conduct of the event was a collective effort. Several players also lauded the organising committee for the seamless scheduling and facilities.

The tournament ended on a high note for Manav, who finished with a gold medal while successfully overseeing one of the biggest pickleball events in the city.
