Prayagraj Training Aircraft Crash: An incident took place in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, which stunned the entire city for some time. A microlight training aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) suddenly crashed just 2–3 kilometers from the Magh Mela area. The accident occurred around 12 noon on January 21, 2026, when the plane lost balance in the air and fell into a pond behind KP College located in the middle of the city. The location of the incident is extremely sensitive. Schools, residential colonies and fair areas are present nearby.

What happened in the air that the plane wobbled?
According to eyewitnesses, the training aircraft was in normal flight when suddenly it started wavering. Within a few seconds, a loud sound was heard, which people described as a “rocket-like sound”. Immediately after this, parachutes were seen opening in the sky, which shocked everyone. Local people say that the plane was seen coming from the direction of Magh Mela and suddenly tilted downwards.

Is everyone safe?
Immediately after the accident, people present nearby ran to the spot. There were water hyacinths and marshes all around the pond, which made the situation more difficult. Despite this, the local people showed courage and jumped into the pond and pulled out three people safely. According to the information received so far, 3 soldiers were successful in saving their lives by jumping with parachute (all three were in uniform). They were taken out of the swamp, however, the total number of people in the plane has not been officially confirmed yet.
What problems are being faced in the rescue operation?
As soon as information about the accident was received, police, fire brigade and rescue teams reached the spot. Within some time, the army helicopter also reached the spot, which is continuously conducting aerial survey. The biggest challenge is that there is dense water hyacinth spread in the pond and due to the swamp the teams are having trouble reaching the aircraft. For this reason the operation is being carried out with utmost care.

Accident near school, how were children’s lives saved?
Teacher Mohammad Shabir, who was present at the spot, said that children were giving practicals in a nearby school. Then he saw a flash of bright red color and then the parachute opening. A few minutes later the plane fell into the pond. One gets goosebumps just thinking that if the plane had fallen a few meters here and there, how dire the situation could have been. At present, teams of both army and administration are present on the spot. The causes of the accident are being investigated. Efforts are being made to find out whether there was a technical fault or some other reason, whether there were other people on board the plane or not and how did this accident happen during a big event like Magh Mela?
