Many festivals of Lord Ganesha are celebrated throughout the year, of which Ganesh Chaturthi and Ganesh Jayanti are the most prominent. Often people remain confused about these two dates. According to the calendar, the festival of Ganesh Jayanti will be celebrated on 22 January this year. Let us know what is the difference between these two and what rules are important to follow during the puja.

Main differences between Ganesh Chaturthi and Ganesh Jayanti

Although both the dates are dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the beliefs behind them are different.

Ganesh Chaturthi (Bhadrapada month): This festival falls in the month of August or September. According to mythology, on this day Lord Ganesha comes to earth to live among his devotees. It is considered a symbol of the arrival of Lord Ganesha.

Ganesh Jayanti (Magh month): It is also called Magh Vinayak Chaturthi. It is celebrated on the Chaturthi of Shukla Paksha of Magh month. It is believed that Lord Ganesha was born on this day, hence it is celebrated as his birthday.

Rules and method of worship

Auspicious time: Afternoon is considered the best time to worship Lord Ganesha.

Pooja Samagri: Use incense, lamp, scent and red clothes in worship. Offer modak to Lord Ganesha and also offer Durva grass, because it is very dear to him.

Mantra chanting: Chant Om Gan Ganapataye Namah or other Ganesha mantras with devotion during the puja.

Kalash installation: Kalash is also established in many homes on this day, which is considered a symbol of purity.

Caution regarding moon darshan

Chandra darshan i.e. seeing the moon is considered taboo on the day of Ganesh Jayanti. According to mythological beliefs, by looking at the moon on this day, there is a fear of false stigma or blame on the person. If you accidentally see the moon, immediately worship Lord Ganesha and seek his forgiveness.

rule of immersion

While devotees keep Bappa in the house for 10 days on Ganesh Chaturthi in August-September and do immersion on Anant Chaturdashi, on Ganesh Jayanti many people keep a fast for one day and break the fast after worship in the evening.
