According to NASA, solar flares are sudden and extremely strong waves of radiation emanating from the sun. The flare recorded on January 18 was of X1.9 category.
- “X” means: most powerful category
- 1.9 means: quite powerful even in that category
This flare was at its peak at 11:39 pm Indian time and NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory captured it clearly on camera.
